the inspiration
we are proud to present our impressions of native australian species in a range of fresh, contemporary designs. all of our designs are inspired by the diversity of the australian bush, and we aim to create designs of little known species, including endangered and lesser known plants.

the name ‘stylidium' comes from the natural environment. stylidium, the trigger plant, is a delicate and beautiful australian native. it is one of the many little known indigenous plants that are easily overlooked - we aim to bring the inconspicuous into view with our designs and products. look closely at the environment where you live and see what beautiful life is in your backyard.

our first designs were inspired by distinctive australian plants such as the new south wales flannel flower actinotus helianthi and the ubiquitous species of the genus eucalyptus and acacia.

the story
sisters, robyn and jan, began creating their own australian inspired designs for textiles in 2001. following an unsuccessful fabric search for jan's wedding dress, robyn and jan went back to the drawing board to develop their own. with a very clear idea of what they wanted and, when everything else fell short of expectations, an original design was born. 70 hours later an elegant and simple dress was created, along with the thread of an idea for a design business.

today every stylidium design product features one of its signature designs, and each product comes with a description of the species featured in the design. all of the products are manufactured in australia with an emphasis on quality, and our fabrics are printed with biodegradable inks.
